Egypt closed 26 facilities in hotels in Hurghada, Marsa Alam and Safaga

Egypt is checking fire safety in hotels on the Red Sea resorts. According to Tourprom on October 31, 2026, the Ministry of Tourism together with the Civil Defense Authority sealed 26 entertainment and wellness facilities in Hurghada, Marsa Alam and Safaga. The hotels themselves keep receiving guests: separate zones inside them are closed. Here is what was closed and how it can affect your stay.

What was closed

The source names these categories:

  • nightclubs and discos;
  • spas, massage and wellness centers;
  • conference halls;
  • children's clubs.

The reasons, according to Tourprom: faulty or missing fire suppression systems, blocked emergency exits, flammable finishing in clubs and no smoke detectors in children's play rooms. The facilities were sealed by police. They will be allowed to reopen after the faults are fixed, a repeat audit and an order of the provincial governor.

Which hotels are on the list is not said in the material, so no conclusion can be drawn about a specific hotel from this news.

What it means for a traveler

The main part of a hotel, meaning rooms, restaurants, pools and the beach, is not mentioned in the report. The extra zones were affected. In practice you may meet these situations:

  1. The spa or massage in your hotel is unavailable although it is listed in the tour description.
  2. The kids club is closed and there is nothing to occupy children during the day.
  3. The evening disco is not working.

If these services matter to you, ask the hotel before departure in writing, through the website chat or by email, and save the reply.

What to do before the trip

  • Write to the hotel and ask whether the spa, kids club and evening program work on your dates.
  • If you booked through a tour operator, ask the manager the same question: if the service was part of the stated package, you have grounds to ask for a replacement or a recalculation.
  • Save screenshots of the hotel description at the time of booking.
  • For independent trips, choose hotels with reviews from the last few weeks where guests write about the spa and kids areas.

Where else in Egypt this may show

The checks cover three resorts: Hurghada areas, hotels and beaches, Hurghada: when to go and excursions and Marsa Alam: diving and a beach holiday. Sharm El Sheikh is not mentioned in this report: see Sharm El Sheikh areas and beaches. Also read about the rain on the coast in Downpours in Egypt: Marsa Alam road closed.

If the trip is already paid

The closure of a club or spa does not give the right to cancel without loss, but you may discuss compensation with the operator if the service was part of the stated package. If the flight has to be changed for another reason, see flight refund rights. Arrange a policy ahead of time: travel insurance for trips abroad.
