Heavy rain in Da Nang and Hue on October 29, 2026: what travelers should do in Vietnam

Thunderstorms and downpours continued in central Vietnam on October 29, 2026. The most rain fell on Hue, the south of Quang Tri province and the northeast of Da Nang. If you travel to these places next week, it helps to know what forecasters warn about and how to adjust plans.

What forecasters say

According to the TV channel VTV, quoted by Vietnam.vn, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting described October 29 this way:

  • in southern Quang Tri, Hue and northeastern Da Nang, moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms were expected, 30 to 60 mm on average and over 120 mm in places;
  • a risk of downpours over 100 mm in 3 hours was flagged;
  • after the rain of recent days, the risk of flash floods, landslides and ground subsidence remains on slopes and near small streams in Quang Tri, Hue and Da Nang;
  • from Thanh Hoa to northern Quang Tri, south of Da Nang and in the eastern parts of provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa, showers with thunderstorms of 10 to 30 mm, over 60 mm in places, were expected;
  • storms may bring tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts;
  • from the evening of October 29 the intensity of heavy rain in Quang Tri, Hue and northeastern Da Nang should gradually ease;
  • at sea in the northern South China Sea, wind up to force 6 with gusts of 7 to 8 and waves of 2 to 4 m.

The report gives no data on airport closures or affected tourists.

Which resorts are affected

Of the popular destinations, Da Nang and Hue are in the heavy rain zone. For Da Nang and nearby Hoi An see Da Nang or Hoi An: which to choose. The south of the country appears in the warning only with thunderstorms, and forecasters did not single out Nha Trang, Phu Quoc or Phan Thiet. For those see Nha Trang areas and where to stay, Phu Quoc beaches and Phan Thiet and Mui Ne.

If you are already in Vietnam or flying in

  1. Move excursions. Trips to mountains, waterfalls and ancient temples are better shifted to a dry day. Museums, cafes and malls stay open.
  2. Stay off slopes and streams. Landslides and flash floods on small watercourses are exactly what specialists warn about.
  3. The sea. With waves of 2 to 4 m and wind, postpone swimming and boat trips.
  4. The road to the airport. Leave with a margin, and for a domestic flight check the status early.
  5. Flight status. Check it on the airline's website the day before and on the day.
