Abu Dhabi: what to do and how to get there from Dubai
Things to do in Abu Dhabi: Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, museums on Saadiyat, Yas Island and the waterfront. Climate, the best season and how to get from Dubai.
Abu Dhabi is the capital of the UAE and the seat of government, but not the main tourist city: that role belongs to Dubai. Still, a lot of money has been invested here in recent decades, and the city now has enough sights to set aside a day or two. If you are starting from Dubai, first look at Dubai in 4 days and Dubai areas.
What to see
According to Wikivoyage, the city stands on a wedge-shaped island connected to the mainland by three bridges. The main points:
- Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. The best-known building in the city, and you are allowed in with covered clothing. Come in the morning to avoid the queue.
- Museums and islands. Saadiyat Island is known for its museums, and Yas Island has amusement parks and a racetrack. Check opening hours and tickets on the official websites.
- The waterfront and beaches. Walks along the waterfront are especially pleasant in the evening.
Climate and season
The climate is arid. Summer is very hot, and people spend most of the day in air-conditioned spaces. It is pleasant here from mid-autumn to early spring, when it is good to spend time outdoors. There is little rainfall during the year.
Getting there from Dubai

Zayed International Airport (AUH) is home to the airline Etihad. Consider both options: flying into Dubai and taking a bus, or flying straight to Abu Dhabi. Compare in the HotTrip flight search.
