Nha Trang: when to go and what to see besides the beach
Seasons in Nha Trang and what to visit: Po Nagar towers, islands in the bay, mud and hot spring baths, plus a 4-day plan.
Nha Trang is not only a beach. Around the city there is enough to fill several days, from the old towers of the Cham people to the islands in the bay.
When to go
The rainy season runs from October to mid-December. At that time there is often a strong sea wind and the days can be cooler. In summer many visitors arrive, so prices are higher and rooms are harder to find. The best times for swimming fall between these extremes: ask for current forecasts and reviews before booking.
What to see
According to Wikivoyage, the history of the region was shaped by the Cham people, and then by the French, who turned the bay into a resort.
- Po Nagar towers. An ancient Cham complex on a hill and one of the main historical sights of the city.
- Islands in the bay. Boat trips with swimming and snorkeling.
- Diving. Nha Trang is considered the diving center of Vietnam, with introductory courses available.
- Hot springs and mud baths. A popular choice for a rest day.
- Market streets and cafes. An evening walk with local food.
A 4-day plan
- Day 1: a walk along the seafront and the beach.
- Day 2: Po Nagar towers and the city markets.
- Day 3: a trip to the islands.
- Day 4: hot springs or diving.
Practical tips
- Check the terms of excursions: what is included, how long they last and what skill level is needed.
- In windy weather boat trips can be cancelled.
- Take sunscreen, water and a spare set of clothes.
